Is it SXSW time yet?

Copy of new blog (2)
SXSW just released its schedule and we’re chomping at the bit to partake in Austin’s most wonderful time of the year. The annual festival will take place from March 10-19th. With so much to do, Austinites and our visitors need the two-month leeway to begin planning their festivities. The robust music lineup includes Spoon, Kate Nash, Malcolm London, and hundreds of other rising artists from all over the globe. In addition to a being immersed in the “Live Music Capitol of the World,” attendees have the opportunity to attend panels that span topics ranging from marketing, food, film, tech, and more. We welcome locals and visitors alike into Brick Oven during the event and keep your eyes peeled for specials!

Just Breathe and Have Some Fun

Whether you’re in shock or celebrating, we think everyone can all agree that we can finally breathe a little after a tumultuous election season. The Brick Oven family is a huge advocate of coming together and being optimistic, so here are a few reminders that might lift your spirits (or at least keep your stomach happy!).

*Tonight and EVERY Wednesday is Wine Down Wednesday. Featured bottles of wine are 1/2 price. You just can’t beat that, so round up a couple friends and let your stresses melt away.

*Thursdays are $2 pint night. Whether it’s celebrating the weekend one day early or a much-deserved happy hour, supplement your pizza with some pints every Thursday.

*It’s still college football season! The Longhorns are 5-4 and 7th in the Big 12, so they can use a little hometown cheer through the remainder of the season. Plus, there are two home games left on the 12th and 25th, so round up your family and friends and hook ’em. If you can’t make it to a home game, you can always enjoy the game here or our sister restaurant Baretto right next door.

We are hard at work bringing you redesigned menus and new specials so sit tight, enjoy each other’s company, and try not to take life too seriously. 🙂

Voting in Austin has Started!

Early voting has started in Austin. Since voting started on Tuesday, Travis County has already seen record numbers hitting the polls as 46,086 registered voters cast their ballots on the first day. This is over double the 20,935 number in the 2012 presidential election.

Lots of folks are attributing these high numbers to either enthusiasm or possibly early burn out. This election certainly has been a little bit of a circus. We’re not looking to stir political debates, only encourage our patrons to go out there and exercise your right to vote!

Voting doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out chore. You can get to the polls from now until November 4th from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to cast you vote. Here are three quick tips to ensure voting doesn’t cause a headache or take out a huge chunk of your day.

1.) Use IVoteEarly.com to check the wait times at your polling location
2.) Check out your “Voter Lookup” form here
3.) Know how you’re going to vote and come prepared

You can also find out your nearest polling location here

Happy election season. Once you’ve cast your vote, come pat yourself on the back with some pizza and beer right here at Brick Oven!
