One of our favorite parts about Austin, Texas is the atmosphere that surrounds it when the 10 day conference, SXSW, rolls around. Whether it’s television, video games or music, everyone at the trade show is listening to a keynote speaker, finding the coolest activation or listening to some of the next up-and-coming bands.
Sure, big names like Cold War Kids and Dashboard Confessional are cool but let us draw your attention to who we have loved so far and who you should have on your radar for the next couple days.
Nathanial Rateliff & the Night Sweats hail from Denver and they have no issue bringing in the crowd at SXSW. The octet features horns, some cooling drums, a smooth guitar, and a soothing yet strong folk voice to carry the music to full. You can catch them on the SXSW Outdoor Stage on Friday, March 16th.
The one man band from California, Cut Chemist, rocked stages all over SXSW. If you’re unfamiliar, Cut Chemist is a hip-hop producer that scratches records to get his deep funk era sound. Having played in Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, we already know that his set is going to be a banger anywhere he plays.
Sometimes you just have to bob your head to some good music. That’s where Daniel Nakamura comes in. With a pretty extensive resume, and under the alias Dan the Automator, he’s collaborated with the Gorillaz and Dr. Octagon and Kool Keith. Unfortunately, he already performed, but that shouldn’t stop you from searching up his vibing hip-hop that’s out there.
